(1) the bamboo pierces
solitary sky,
waiting for storms

(2) feral kitten thing
you must have believed, at times
you were a tiger

(3) the lone dandelion
splitting concrete street corner
gives me pause

(4) the threat of rainstorms
silence the coming dawn
but not the sparrows

(5) embers falter while
the night cools our blood
fire sputters

(6) you are mountain rocks,
passes carved smooth by
rivers running through

(7) today i saw one
star streak through black night sky
a falling fire flower

(8) orange mushrooms riot
out of the trunk of the oldest
pine tree in the yard

(9) may's gardenias grow
past brick and through vine walls
down to shed petals on the ground

(10) gray light morning
seeps through windows
to stain carpets

(11) caterpillar so cruelly
killed by errant foot
lies on path's end

(12) Here the night
curls like a cat
over mountains

(13) fog thickens:
drapes over leaves--
rest

(14) in your hands
the tiny tea cup
is a lotus

(15) against the kiss of
daylight the shadows
race away

(16) bullfrog serenades
happen on nights when you have
to be up by six

I don't really write form poetry so I thought this would be a good way to exercise the three things I think I lack with writing:

1) restraint
2) clear imagery
3) discipline

I think that this will really help me become a better writer. I hope I got it right. It's the first time I've written a haiku since grade school!

I can't believe everyone involved with HKW! Thank you for all the watches, I'm watching you all back, let's get through this month together!

4-7 were done over several days. I was very busy so I wasn't able to update. Happy Fourth! I had the pleasure of hosting a few Americans for a bbq party. It was cool.

8-11 were done over the course of a crazy week.

We have a great wild garden and I pretty much took all of the inspiration from there.

11-15 were written on notebook paper over the period of four days. each was inspired by a random photo i googled. hahaha. (i HAD to start somewhere!)

the idea for 16 was suggested by
